Huge congratulations to our alumnus, Mr. Neevan Fernandes and his team (B.Sc. International Hospitality Management, Batch 2019-2022), for making it to Michelin guide in 2024! At just 22 years old, he’s already making waves in the F&B department at Little Miss India, Fairmont on the Palm, Dubai, UAE. Keeping the attention to detail and creating a very homely atmosphere by telling the true Indian story with their guest ,they strived to always maintain a very high level of hospitality helping them to carve their path towards the rest of the stars. Huge congratulations to our alumnus, His success is a testament to the world-class education, mentorship, and discipline instilled at VMSIIHE. We’re so proud to see our students excel on a global stage!
Our alumni speak for us, through their experiences and professions.
Looking back, joining VMSIIHE was one of the most important decisions that shaped my career. The institute gave me a strong foundation in hospitality, but more importantly, it taught me discipline, professionalism, and the confidence to pursue opportunities with passion.
Today, I am proud to be the Co-Founder and Culinary Lead at Chailot, where I lead menu development, product innovation, and culinary operations, contributing to the growth of a successful café brand.
I also founded Culinex Hospitality, a consultancy that helps cafés, restaurants, and aspiring food entrepreneurs build profitable businesses through menu engineering, concept development, and operational support. In addition, I conduct masterclasses to mentor home bakers and budding entrepreneurs in turning their passion into successful ventures.
My advice to current students is simple: never limit yourself to just getting a job. Learn every aspect of the industry, stay curious, embrace challenges, and keep upgrading your skills. Hospitality offers endless opportunities for those who are willing to innovate, work hard, and create value.

My journey from VMSIIHE to my current role as a Computer Aided Facility Management Operator at Al Ghurair, Dubai, has been truly transformative. The institute’s high-standard infrastructure, luxury ambiance, and world-class services perfectly prepared me for the
international market.
The guidance of the highly qualified faculty, paired with rigorous academic activities and proactive training, expanded my professional capabilities. Collaborating on hands-on training sessions and campus events with peers remains my most memorable student experience, building my foundations in teamwork and leadership.
To current and aspiring students: The world may seem big, but it is small. Stay sharp, keep your visions high, plan well, and keep your eyes widely open to discover wonderful opportunities beyond traditional boundaries.
Studying at V. M. Salgaocar Institute of International Hospitality Education (VMSIIHE) from 2021 to 2024 was an enriching experience that shaped my career in hospitality. A highlight of my journey was my six-month internship at Hilton Dubai Jumeirah, where I gained hands-on industry experience and learned the importance of adaptability and service excellence. Organizing events like, theme nights and mega events, helped me develop leadership, teamwork, and time management skills, essential for the fast-paced hospitality industry. With a strong academic foundation, industry exposure, and practical skills, VMSIIHE has prepared me for a successful career in the hospitality industry. I am grateful for the knowledge and experiences that will guide me in my professional journey. I am grateful to Prof. Irfan Mirza for being an inspiration to everyone influenced by his exceptional vision. His dedication to creating an unparalleled infrastructure and elevating VM Salgaocar Institute of International Hospitality Management to international standards has set a benchmark in hospitality education. I also extend my gratitude to the supportive faculty and staff, whose guidance and commitment have played a crucial role in shaping aspiring professionals and transforming the industry.
I would like to thank the faculty of VMSIIHE for instilling in me the core values required to excel in the hospitality industry especially to Prof.Irfan Mirza for always being the backbone in VMSIIHE and for always guiding me in making the right choice. Apart from VMSIIHE being a mini Switzerland in Goa, it is also the right the place to kickstart your career in hospitality.
Being in the hospitality industry, it’s not always about hotels and resorts, but also about creating an unforgettable experience one has to deliver to the guest.” This is the ideology I go by. VMSIIHE has nurtured and trained me to excel in this ever growing and challenging industry. The first place you learn hospitality is at your own home, to be the best at it professionally VMSIIHE is always your second home. My immense passion for food, love for interacting with guests of different cultures worldwide and building guest relations has led to me kickstart my career as an In Room Dining Server in the Pre-opening Team of Waldorf Astoria, Kuwait by Hilton.
My intention to join VMSIIHE was to get my skills and knowledge about the hospitality industry in a much more clear direction where the teaching was done in a very significant manner, and the skills attained through the course of time in the institute have been tremendous and helpful.
VMSIIHE Connect is a newsletter that gives alumni the opportunity to stay in touch with their former classmates, professors and staff at our institute. Get a sneak-peek into their lives and feel inspired as you read their success stories.
